August Gene Sewing Projects and Barbie

This is my first post for August and I have not been doing much with my 1:6 scale dolls...I have yet to de-box my W CLub Alice- Curiouser & Curiouser Poppy Parker! AND I just put the deposit down for 'Suited for Travel Poppy Parker the other day and I am waiting for the Cheer Poppy Parker to arrive! So I will have two Poppys that will desperately need to escape their boxes and alot of switching around on the shelves for placement. The dolls need more camera attention.

On the Barbie girl- no I have not seen the movie yet, though I would like to...one of the reasons is I cannot bring myself to pay $21++ dollars to go to a theater to see a movie. Call me cheap but that is an obscene amount of money to attend a movie. And usually in the evenings I am tired after all that I do all day. I would say weekends during the day would be better, but my weekends are usually reserved for running errands, etc. and unwinding. I have figured out I can spend that amount on the DVD and pre-order the movie and watch it as much as I like in the comfort of my own home without paying a fortune on the hype and overpriced popcorn.

I have found a cute magazine at Walmart that was really cute and did a fun photo spread on the history of Barbie. Good for the price and great to add to a collector's library.

It is currently running $13.99 and has some interesting articles on Ruth Handler, the history of Barbie, and lots of photos spreads. Highly recommend, worth the price. And, yes I hope to get the movie dolls soon. They are just too cute.

My current projects have been to finish up some fall outfits for the Tonner doll and Gene dolls. I finished two cute skirts for my Madra and Ivy dolls, holding a fall cake in front of my vintage Wolverine fridge.

Madra's skirt is a plaid soft chiffon like material, and Ivy's skirt is a Halloween cotton print with small bats and fall leaves on it. I was really pleased with how it turned out. My original idea was to stage this with a couple of Madame Alexander Wendy dolls dressed for Halloween like they were having a party/ trick or treating in the kitchen and the Gene dolls were baking cookies and candy in the kitchen.

Enjoy! Hope to be back here with more postings soon.

I enjoy reading and collecting books like that, I have a couple on Madame Alexander's Cissy dolls, but I'm not so interested in Barbie or going to see the movie.

Also enjoying your photos of your dolls. :)
Big hugs,

Thank you Xanada!
Honestly, I have not had time nor the excess money to see the Barbie movie as I cannot bring myself to spend $21+ dollars on admission to see a movie! Call me cheap but the prices to see a movie are ridiculous! I think I will wait for the dvd, lol. I love Barbie but not at those prices, and some people are spending that much three, four , five time to see it!
Thank you, and glad you are enjoying the dolls!
