Va Fashion Doll Club Meeting August 9, 2025

My doll club, the Va Fashion Doll Club, met on Saturday, August 9th, and we had a fun filled packed schedule! Everyone who attended the Convention in July reported on that and brought back some of their room sales from Kentucky, and our member Allison who attended UFDC brought some of her amazing finds at the sales day at the show in Norfolk, VA. (I am a member of UFDC but did not attend). We had a special guest, Chris who is a vintage Barbie and Ken collector and is a godson of our one of our officers, Linda and he regaled us with some amazing Barbie stories and some of his own amazing vintage Barbie finds. We also did a hat and purse workshop for our club doll!

So onto the photos-!

Before and after- behind the scenes of our hat workshop dolls, and Linda and Chris holding up the backdrop for Debbie to take the 'perfect' photo of our club dolls in their new hats!! We always joke about Debbie and the photo takes!

Next up were the mini convention dress challenge= Nita won the challenge with her gold dotted dress and Jodie came in second with the convention fabric- the blue gold fabric. Allison's was done with the poinsettia and Janice's was the white, mine was done with the red dragon damask.
Sadly, I could not get mine to pleat correctly like the other ladies did, as mine would not work with the iron correctly. I used what fabric I had which did not want to work with the iron.

These photos were taken of my dress here at home...

Next up was Nita's continuation from the last meeting at her house on No-Sew patterns for Barbie and friends. She had made all of the dresses from patterns she has collected. These are a combination of Simplicity, Butterick, Vogue, patterns.
After that, Christina gave a short talk on Children's antique Sewing machine's and showed some of them from her collection.

These were very interesting and amazing in their intricate - some of them came with cases, and foot pedals. In the book, I was able to find my own sewing machine which I still have and owned as a child, and it came from Japan. I will probably take that down later and dust it off for photos.

A few more photos of Debbie's displays and the food we had for lunch. Had a fun time and our next meeting is in October!
