2nd Floor Progress....

I have had a long busy weekend and the week has been busy with no time to work on this project until today. I made alot of headway on the 2nd floor.

First let me say that the 2nd floor is meant for illusion,  maybe to hold one doll at the window, or at the stairs, maybe a chair, but simply for the illusion of a second floor .  This in all actuality, is not a dollhouse per se, but a miniature set in 1:6 scale, a diorama. Though huge, it is basically pinned together. To me, though as most of the miniature artists I know say, 'wood is good' wood is friggin' heavy! I can only imagine how heavy this monster would be if I had built it out of 1/2 inch birch ply. Ughh. Most guilded artists I know would consider the materials I'm working with, foamcore, foam insulation, pins, - utter crap to be honest. But that is the art of it. And the fun!

So let's get on with the pics.

Here it is with some very glarified pics with the floor pinned in. I have columns that will be cut down and spray painted that will go underneath. Set B with the stairs will come up the back.  The chandelier wiill possibly somehow be suspended between the floor, and railings will go around that. Lots of work to do.

Gathered some more tree branches for bare limbed trees and have some plans for them. Sorry this is such a lackluster post without more progress, but have lots to do before I can move to the next step of the diorama. Hope you enjoyed it!Lisa

A Witches' Tea Party!

Welcome, Welcome to the Witches' Tea Party!

Oh Dear, you are rather late. Good Evening...I am Mrs. Danvers, the housekeeper of Dark Hollows Manor......

....'Do come in, don't be shy. The witches are waiting, I'm sure they won't put a 'spell' on you, cackle''.....

As you enter the Dark Hollows mansion, to the Witches Tea Party, prepare for some spicey tea that is smoking hot, with cakes of red velvet ....no need to ask their ingredients....mahahaha........

Inside, tea is indeed 'smoking hot' with tarts and red velvet cakes thick with cream....served by an elegant hostess Witch....

Oh the horror of it! Sarcophagus in the parlor! And our guest Witch of Oz is the Wicked Witch of the East, no less, waiting for her sister from the West who has not yet arrived...Morticia Addams, and Lucy, are both politely partaking of the Witchy tea and cakes....in this Gothic mansion.....

As the tea cools, and the guests chat over their ghoulish plans for Halloween, and all the rest of October, the witching hour of tea comes to a close as the hour chimes on the grandfather clock.....and the gargoyle statues brood over the door and the fireplace....and our witchy tea party comes to an end.....

Run, don't walk for that door! Mrs. Danvers will see you out!
Hope you had a be-witching time at our 1:6 scale witches' tea party!

                  **A note, for tomorrow----
Thank you for visiting my blog. I am doing this blog post on Friday so it will be up early in time for the tea party for Saturday, as I will be too busy in the evening and morning to post, and wanted to make sure it was up! So just a note, if I don't respond immediately tomorrow, I will eventually answer all of the comments. Lisa

Three Walls come together....

Today there will be two posts, as tomorrow I will be busy and won't be doing any building. Tomorrow is also the Witches' Tea, so I am going to be posting that post today. But, first, the third wall on the Gothic Mansion went up today! I also did some exterior tree placement as well.

Today in order to add this third wall, I had to also add another five foot table on the other side. That's how big this baby is! I also did some playing around with the PVC pillars and the roof of the veranda and decided it might look better flat versus slanted. More imposing. I had this twig branch trellis I purchased years ago in Williamsburg at the Pottery when it was the good pottery not the overpriced pottery like it is now. The other two trees are courtesy free foraging in my front yard when the storms hit and I decided these branches would make great 1/6 scale trees. I need to take more time away from the workshop to get more dead branches and vines for this diorama, to make the mansion look real on the exterior.

I also worked on the curtains, but had ONE gluestick left in my gluegun. It worked. I will pick up some more on a Michael's run. The one day you need them, the dollar store doesn't sell them!headsmack!

Right here they are draped and and glued. When I get more glue sticks I will do a better job.

Now that I have the three walls up, I can get a much better idea of how the 2nd set with the stairs will get constructed. I have a cool prop on its way that will help with the 2nd part of the mansion's construction so in the meantime I can work on exterior landscaping and fun photos and maybe take pics of a Halloween party. Right now the Witches' Tea will be in progress tomorrow!

Enjoy the pictures!~Lisa

More progress in the Gothic Mansion...

More progress in the Gothic Mansion today. I did some of the drapes in the sheer chiffon. This stuff is not like working with the gauze. Right now it's pinned, and not hot glued onto the walls. I did two lower windows to see how it looks.

I pulled out all my spooky props, including my King Tut sarcophagus. No gothic mansion is complete without an Egyptian sarcophagus greeting you at the door. Or with gargoyles everywhere!

Mistress of the Manor and her dripping candlestick! About this time, some of the 'guests' start to arrive........

It seems Thelma, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo have arrived and are wondering where Daphne and Fred are! They were supposed to arrive ahead of them??Hmmm...let's hope the Count didn't decide to have his own 'Scooby' Snacks....lol....It appears Shaggy doesn't like that sarcophagus in the living room either!!

Currently my GLOSS Starlight Poppy Parker is going to be Daphne and my GLOSS CI guy is going to be Fred, who I am making his Fred outfit. So they will show up dressed later...

I did some experimenting with the 2nd floor....

Tried to get an idea if I supported the 2nd floor with pillars inside and did maybe a wood framework as well as pinning the floor to the walls...I will have a better idea when the third wall is in place. But it does look kind of cool with a ceiling.
All for now- Lisa

Progress of the Gothic Mansion...

I have some progress pictures to show of how far I have come with the exterior and interior. Two walls are done and I am almost finished with the third wall. Waiting for the trims and papers to dry on that one, then I can work on the interior window and door wood trims on the front wall.

Morticia would like to welcome you....The pillars are just sitting in place with the front veranda roof right now. There will be alot more on the exterior like dead trees, vines, fencing, etc. I have to take these walls down so much I don't like to drag out too many props. Today I glued the embellishments above the door and windows .

Now on to the interior...

Here you can see the unfinished wood steps and the overhang on the pillars next to the door. I will add long, sheer gauzey curtains/drapes  to those windows as well.

Mrs. Danvers, Count Dracula's faithful housekeeper in the mansion.

The Count is making sure Mrs. Danvers, his faithful housekeeper makes sure his 'guests' will be comfortable...

The first floor is done in a rich dark red velvet raised brocade with red velvet panels. Below is black panels spray painted to show the 'stone' walls, edged with carved woodwork, stained in dark walnut. I will have portraits hanging in gold frames on these panels. The fireplace is an old damaged Bespaq one that I spray painted black, I need to customize it more for the brickwork and glowing embers I plan to have in there.

Here you can see the 2nd floor papers and trim. The only thing missing is the actual 2nd floor and support, and stairs. I thought it should be really dark, gloomy and foreboding....

The front door has an overhang with pillars on either side and steps down into the room because the houseworks door is so short, to give the appearance of height since so many action figures and the FR Hommes are taller than this door. Only Skipper would fit through this door comfortably. When I unpin this front wall and work on the trims I will probably add long gauzey white drapes to all of the windows.

Still lots more to do! Hope you enjoy the work so far! Happy Halloween- only 11 more days!~Lisa
