Making the best use of props...

I have been busy and not busy. Hard to explain. My schedule will be gearing up to crazy busy with commitments in October and though I have dolly time now, sometimes I am just plain lazy and do not wish to work on anything for the dolls, other than take photos.

So with the arrival of Count Dracula and his brides, that pushed me to start on their castle/tomb retreat which cause McDonald's diner to be shut down for a small period of time. Really, I'm running out of room. Correction: I have run out of room. And the W Club doesn't help but twisting my arm to buy these wonderful snobby dolls who simply demand their own residence, shops, well...diorama nuts- you get the picture.

Making the best of what props you have. I have a prop heaven for some people. One prop I have been wanting to use but never had the space for the dio (who has space for a castle in 1:6 scale??)  is this wonderful curio. I decided that with Halloween coming I wanted to do something spook-tacula and thought, how about a dining room for the Count and his brides with some gorey food...after all, they're always 'hungry'. The four blood chairs are perfect, now I'm trying to figure out a table base.
Here is the diorama in progress...

Yes that is a jar of eyeballs in the Count's hand. I have been sorting thru my stash of items and accessories and that is a miniature jar of eyeballs I made back in 2005? I think for All Things Miniature forum , now defunct. It was actually an eyeball cane tutorial and the eyeballs were caned to look 'bloodshot'. You would probably have to google it now, as I have long forgotten my own tutorial, which is probably in my files on my mainframe. It makes a cool spooky prop for my Halloween dolls.
Back to the curio- we had a short supply of these, but I loved them. They were perfect scale even though I have a small design of another curio in stock which measures 16 inches that will work for the fashion royalty dolls since they sometimes measure out to 13 inches, especially the Hommes. I think a china cabinet makes an impressive display. I still have to go thru my miniature china sets and fill it up. The Count has traveled extensively and has loads of knick knacks to fill it up with.
I found another prop that will be useful for Ken or the Hommes and action figures as well at Hobby Lobby.

It is a set of miniature tools that are actually small tree Christmas ornaments. Take your 40% off coupon as they run 6.99. I haven't took any photos of them in use yet, The Scrap Box studio is still in building stages, so perhaps they will get some stage time there. They are very realistic looking and heavy resin.

This is the other style of curio I have that is the small one 16 inches I mentioned. I have a bunch of these in various stages of flaws on my eBay Auctions with low starting bids of 9.99 . (I have relisted Bewitching Hour Luchia and Lady in Waiting Dania Zarr with reduced prices on auction as well today tool ) I have used these curios before and want very badly if I ever get any time to do a museum scene with these filled with all sorts of antiquities for the  dolls. Here Joyful in Japan (Nellie) is modeling the curio. I think it will work, if the room ceiling is large enough and I balance it out with other displays to give that feeling of space to the room, like a museum room exhibit would have.
Enjoy!

Vintage, Vintage....

As my last post I blogged about some dolls leaving Barbietown...this year thanks to the W Club and Mattel I have been over tempted and pelted with dolls, though space is becoming an issue. So some things I would prefer not to leave Barbietown, simply must as I am determined to pay down much of our debt. Running two businesses as my husband and I do, in an economy, sometimes you have to step back and catagorize what is really important.  I think all doll collectors at one point look at their doll displays and doll rooms and are shocked when they began to count the dolls, props and other items we acquire in the 'heat of the moment' buy....and when I began to do the tally on dolls, it hits home.

Which brings me to this little gem, the Barbie Fashion shop. Vintage. Oh what a dream. I was never lucky enough to own this, and neither to my knowledge, did my aunt, who was 11 years older than me. My memories of playing vintage Barbie with aunt Gayle are treasured- she had the Barbie foldup dreamhouse, ponytails, bubblecuts, and wonderful flocked vintage Ken. (I grew up with Malibu and mod barbie- blech on fashion ) Since my mother worked, I was picked up from school by my grandmother and I would get home a little before my aunt came home from high school. The usual routine was this: 1st relax watch Batman and eat fritos or potato chips and onion dip 2) change out of school clothes and if there was time, pull out Barbie and play 3) usually hope mom didn't come home early from work so I could play Barbie longer and Grandma would make me maccaroni and cheese(my favorite)

So playing wtih my aunt's Barbies sparked two lifelong passions- Barbie and fashion dolls as well as potato chips and onion dip. They are both alike- you can't stop at just one!
I have this item up for sale in my ebay store with a Buy it Now and best offer too. It is a very large item to ship. vintage Barbie fashion shop
This item is in extremely good condition considering it is made of cardboard and has very little play on the doors of the cabinet or the model doors. vinyl curtain is intact. Graphics are still bright, some wear on edges of cardboard. Plastic on window is intact as well. Only missing its yellow flat floor piece and the cardboard mannequin, I can include a template of a friend's so you can create your own if you wish. The chairs look like new. I really wish I did not have to sell this grail item but need to at the moment. I found no evidence that tape had been used on this item at all, a rarity on the vintage Barbie items.

I have shown my vintage Midge with the shop, but she is not for sale.

So here are some photos, I hope you enjoy them!

Dolls that are leaving by Ebay...

I have listed three of my dolls on Ebay, my Tonner 'Bon Voyage' 2009 Ellowyne Wilde doll on a BIN, as well as FR Bewitching Hour Luchia and FR Lady In Waiting Dania Zarr exclusive . Both are sold nude and come with their boxes, both are low editions of W Club exclusive dolls and are from my personal collection.

Click on the links above on each name and it will take you directly to the Ebay listing. Ellowyne is on a Buy It Now- she comes dressed in her dress, hose, shoes, mitts, and necklace- is very hard to find. I am the 2nd owner, she was a gift from a customer/friend who did the photography spreads on the Ellowyne dolls for Haute doll before it was sold to Doll Reader. She featured much of the large scale Bespaq I carry with the Ellowyne dolls in her photos in the magazine.I have had her since 2010.

I will be listing more dolls as soon as I decide what others are going to be leaving. Payment on the dolls are expected within 3 days, signature required if I combine dolls for combined shipping discount. Prices are reasonable and are based on their edition sizes and completed /sold listings on eBay and the doll boards. My dolls come from a pet free, smoke free home.
Here are some photos of the dolls so far listed-
