Va Fashion Doll Clubs' Mini Convention- Travelin' With Barbie

Every year during Barbie Convention- which just ended this weekend in July, our Va. Fashion Doll Club began to have its own, 'Mini-Convention' for those members who could not attend the Barbie Convention. We usually make reservations at a restuarant, and it is on the weekend of Barbie Convention. All attendees who attend bring a tote bag favor for each attendee and the committee who plans the lunch also creates the 'centerpiece doll' which a lucky attendee wins. This year's theme was Travelin' with Barbie. Below are photos of the doll with luggage that was worked on by Janice, Jodie and Allison. 

Nita was the lucky winner of the centerpiece doll. She was so cute!

Besides bringing tote bag favors, we were instructed to bring a doll dressed for travel, and a nude doll to dress. Here are some of the dolls dressed to travel.

Jodie's doll. Jodie gave each of us the bow place holder and let us each choose a placecard that we would like to go. Jodie chose London.

This was my doll- Poppy Parker Suited to Travel. I had chosen Bavaria, because I have never been and because there is a restuarant here in Madison, VA called The Bavarian that has authentic Bavarian German cuisine that my husband Chris has taken me too.

Allison's doll- her card says the Netherlands 

Now onto our outfits for the nude dolls-

We received a pair of black pants from Allison, a crocheted tank top, belt and shoes from Jodie. These were lovely and so we dressed our dolls we brought and had a photo session with them together. 

After lunch we all had dessert and the desserts at the Henry Clay Inn are amazing- all of the foods are gourmet and handmade. I had the cheesecake, there was key lime pie, Coconut cream cake, raspberry sorbet, a huge cookie, chocolate lava cake.

Overall we had a great day and a great event and alot of fun!

 

Va Fashion Doll Club April 2026 Meeting

 Yesterday I attended my Va. Fashion Doll club meeting. Our club meeting challenge theme was to create a room out of the magnetic boxes that you can purchase from Michael's or Hobby Lobby with props and dolls, and also to bring the 'first' doll that started you collecting Barbie. It was a very fun meeting , as we received this challenge in February at Scarlett's home so I have been working on it a couple of months. I decided to do Skipper's bedroom since I had most of the props and did not have to purchase very much except fabric. 

I will start with the box challenge photos- below is my box challenge with Skipper and Fluff's bedroom- a 1970's mod little girls teen bedroom 

                        

Next Up is Janice's wedding scene which was amazing- (her box is not visible because she wanted to use Debbie's garden as a backdrop. Our club president has a Florida sunroom where we put all of our displays. )

 Next up was Allison's amazing bee box Randolph Macon bee college room-Allison went to Randolph Macon. She made all of the outfits on her vintage dolls. The furniture is from an artist in Latvia? overseas 

Next up was Leslie's KenVention store and she used a box from a Ken with accessories from different kens-

We were asked to bring our 'first' dolls that got us into doll collecting- I brought my 2002 Mattel Wizard of Oz Dorothy - when I first dived into purchasing Barbies just because I liked them - by 2006 I was had a whole hoard of dolls. 

People brought a bunch of different various dolls, different reasons, it was fun to hear the stories, and jokes surrounding the outfits and dolls. 

Refreshments galore! I brought Chocolate Easter eggs made by my Eastern Star chapter that are a big fundraiser and a squash pie. 

Debbie's Easter decorations throughout the house were lovely as always.
