Va Fashion Doll Club Meeting Sunday January 26, 2025

The Va. Fashion Doll club meeting was held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 and this was to celebrate our Mini-Convention Dress Challenge that Janice gave us in July (those of us who did not attend Barbie Convention - we have our own mini convention with lunch and games) . Also, we were partially celebrating Valentines day at Debbie's house(our club president) who always goes all out decorating with doll scenes throughout her home. Our program was also on Skipper, a big club favorite -who turned 60 in 2024 and we had a wonderful program on her.

Just to get the overwhelming photos of the Skipper program out of the way- I will post them. The program was on Skipper and her outfits and the changes Mattel did to the doll from 1965 to 1972 and the 1980's and into 1995 when they created 'Teen Skipper'.

My photos ended up a little backwards- with the grouping at the bottom and the modern Skippers at the top.

Then we have the OOAK & Custom Skippers. These were stunning and most were brought by Debbie, Janice, Nita and Jodie.

The Learning to Cook Skipper was styled by Arnoldo and was purchased by Debbie at a convention. Arnoldo is a doll artist based here in Richmond and attends many of the Barbie shows and conventions.
Then we had our Barbie dress challenge. Once a year, Janice gives us mini conventioneers a dress challenge with a bag of fabrics and a directive. We all get the same fabrics. This year it contained fabrics we normally do not work with - satin, two types of tulle- pink and blue, pink cotton, and a piece of sequined fabric.

Jodies entry

Allison's two entries

Scarletts entry- sketch no doll

The challenge was you had to make your own patterns and sketch your inspiration dress! One person sketched their dress but did not sew it; two others used patterns but did not sketch the dress, one person sewed the dress but did not sketch it out, and me - well I sewed it but did not use a pattern and I sketched it out and also printed out a photo that I used for my inspiration.
Allison won as hers was amazing- she did a sheath with a hat and sequined jacket with sleeves! and a mod sheath with sequined trim and cape.
The rest of the photos are of Debbie's home decorated with her dolls at various places through out her home in Valentine's day and winter scenes. Enjoy!

The last photo is of Jodie's doll, a repro Francie dressed as a mouseketeer! What is so adorable- is the guitar is a Hallmark ornament that actually plays the mouseketeer song! She is so CUTE!
