Goodwill thrifts and finds

I have been meaning to make this post but have not had time. I love to thrift for unloved toys and dolls and made a great discovery of three Madame Alexander Dolls of the World 8 inch Wendy dolls.

I found these three little darlings in the local Goodwill which has had some marvelous finds on dolls in the past couple of years and months . The price on each of these with their stands were $3.99 each which was quite a steal!

Austria , the little doll in the middle with the braids, has a head coming off with worn out rubber bands, common in these dolls. I plan to teach myself how to restring dols with this one and start sewing for this size with some patterns as soon as I purchase the supplies and the patterns. The one at the top is Ireland, who I already own, and the bottom one is Germany. They are pretty much intact and their clothing is in good condition. Austria I might plan to play with and redress and make into a child doll for my Gene and Trent families for dioramas as I also am on the hunt for a Madame Alexander boy doll for a brother so I can 'complete' the family scene setting. I have a blonde Gene which would look great at a Christmas scene. More projects on the horizon- and yes I have already got the Christmas cards in the planning stages-LOL!

What arrived in the Mail yesterday...!

These two little darlings arrived in the mail yesterday, a few days apart.

One is the Easter Egg Kelly from the 1990s and the other is a 1973? I think Madame Alexander dolls of the World Ireland  8 inch Wendy doll.

I am attempting to prepare for St. Patrick's Day and Easter and I have wanted this little doll for a long time. I got her at a heck of a deal- $11 plus reduced shipping 5.95 priority mail on Poshmark. With tax I think I paid a total of $17.21. She has only been displayed in a cabinet. She didn't have a stand but no marks on her body , no box or tag, but her outfit is pristine. The lace on her cap and her hair- lovely.

Kelly looks like one of the dolls you used to be able to purchase around Easter at the Easter section in Walmart or Target and has her original price tag on. I have already taken her out of the packaging as she is going to be in a display and I got her for a deal on Mercari for $8 plus shipping of $4.37 I think so I ended up paying about $13.00 with tax on this little lovely.  I shop for alot of deals on my holiday dolls not only on ebay - where shipping is outrageous- but Poshmark and Mercari and have found some great dolls and deals there.

I am working on my Hinamatsuri display right now as well as St. Patrick's day and Easter, so alot going on for now. More to come!

Madame Alexander #1570 Vintage Bride...

Since this IS a blog called The One Sixth Scale Dollhouse, I have somewhat pushed the limits on posting dolls here that measure 16, 18, and over the top in other scales. But I wanted to share brides this month and I thought a large variety of scales would be pleasing to all collectors. And who doesn't find Madame Alexander dolls sweet?

I love Madame Alexander dolls. They were the 'first' dolls I was taught to 'keep nice' and put on my shelf in my room and 'collect' as a little girl. It was a HUGE treat to go to the dime store with my mother as a little girl and pay the extravagant price of $7 or $8.50 for a Wendy doll back in 1970-something when I was six or seven years old. And they had bent knees!! They came in the most beautiful boxes, blue, with a lid and pink tissue paper. You felt like it was a special occasion and this beautiful doll was looking up at you . I only got them on special occasions, Christmas, birthdays, holidays,- I remember getting Spain on Valentine's day and the blue ballerina on my birthday. I still have them to this day. I remember getting Scarlett O'Hara after watching the movie for Easter- in my Easter basket one year! This particular bride is similar to one I had that my aunt purchased for me when I was a tad older- about 7 or 8 years old and it came in a huge box under the Christmas tree. I still have the original doll but I think her dress got damaged. This doll is similar but her hair is more red/auburn.
